A thermocouple is a device
made by two different wire joined at one end called junction end or measuring
end. The two wire are called thermo elements are distinguish as positive and
negativ
It is comprises of at least two metal joined together to form two
junction of this junction is connected
to the body whose temperature is to be measured and it is a measuring junction.
The other junction of this device is made in contact with body of known
temperature. This junction temperature called cold or reference junction. In
this way thermocouple measure the temperature of unknown body with reference to
the know body temperature.
Advantages:-

Simple in construction.

High temperature operation.

Low cost.
4)
Fastest response to temperature changes.
Disadvantages:-
1)
Least stable, least repeatable.
2)
Low sensitivity to small temperature changes.
3)
Wire may pick up radiated electrical noise if not shielded.
4)
Lowest accuracy.
Applications:-
1)
Plastic injection molding machinery.
2)
Food processing equipment.
3)
Heat treating.
